If you’ve been waiting for a time to sign up for an investment account at ShareBuilder, now is that time. If you have a friend refer you, you get a $25 bonus when you open your account and start investing, and your friend gets 5 automatic trading credits. Pretty good deal really.
If you’re not familiar with ShareBuilder, it’s a pretty nifty site. It lets you do fractional share purchases, so you can buy $20 of a $150 share. Or, you can buy $200 of GOOG if you wanted to. Trades are only $4 each, or you can pay for monthly share trades if you’ll be doing more than one trade here and there. For $12/month, you get 6 trades, and for $20/month, you get 20 trades. You can upgrade at any time, so if you plan on doing a bunch of trades one month, you can upgrade, then downgrade after. The account I have with them is an ESA, so it’s a more long term buy and hold account. I only make one trade a quarter, so the $4 saves me money. You might be different and need/want to pay the monthly fee.
