For many years, before starting Beating Broke, my wife and I struggled to pay our bills. We’d do all the things I try and convince people to not do now. Paying bills with credit cards you don’t pay off monthly, buying a house you can’t afford, cars you can’t afford, and generally living financial lives that are hanging by a string.
At some point, we were seriously discussing filing for bankruptcy. It was then that I started doing what I tend to do when faced with a difficult situation. I learn all I can about it. I started buying books, and reading money magazines to figure out how to pull our finances out of the hole we had dug.
I was already blogging on a personal blog (Thatedeguy.com was started in August, 2005) and I decided I wanted an outlet to share all the things I was learning about personal finance. Beating Broke is that outlet.
My hope, for Beating Broke, is that it provides intelligent discussion about personal finance while still giving you, the reader, all the information you need to make smart decisions about how to handle your personal finances.
I’d love to know if you think I’m accomplishing that goal. Please feel free to use the Contact form to let me know if there is anything that I can improve, or to provide any feedback.
